Alex Bichler, 97, of Bismarck, ND, formerly of Linton, ND, died December 5, 2022, at Sanford Health in Bismarck surrounded by family.  Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck with Fr. Josh Ehli and Deacon Tony Ternes officiating.  Burial will be at 4:00 p.m. at St Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Linton, ND.  Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 8, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at the Bismarck Funeral Home Bismarck.  The link to view the Mass of Christian Burial is located at the end of the obituary.

Alex was born on March 2, 1925, in Linton, ND, the son of Mike and Mary (Wikenheiser) Bichler.  He attended country school and high school in Strasburg.  At a young age, he began to farm with his father. This was the beginning of his love of farming.  Alex married Kathryn Mosset in Linton on November 6, 1946.  Following their marriage, they purchased a farm where they lived for 66 years and raised their six children and five foster teenagers.  They retired from the farm in 2012 and moved to Linton.  In 2014, they moved to Bismarck where they resided until his death.

Alex's faith was the center of his life.  He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and long- standing member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.  He served on several church boards and committees including extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, usher, church council and numerous other church organizations.  He also was a board member of Kem Electric, Farm Bureau, and Linton Farmers Elevator.

He enjoyed dancing, playing the harmonica, bowling, hunting gophers and rabbits, playing cards and pool.  Family and farming were his greatest loves.

Alex will be remembered as a very humble, faithful, and prayerful man with a strong work ethic and a magical sense of humor.  He served the Lord, his community and his church. "Well done, good and faithful servant" Matt.25:23

Alex is survived by his wife of 76 years, Kathryn of Bismarck, ND; daughters:  Diane (Jim) Samek of Fargo, ND, Kathy (Joe) Ibach of Bismarck, ND, Janice (Keith) Ohlhauser of Linton, ND, Sharon (Larry) Jangula of Linton, ND, and Bona (Larry) Lauinger of Linton, ND; 14 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; a brother: Joe (Ann) Bichler; sisters: Lorraine Mosset, Sally Bernhardt, Beverly Noel, Bernice (Edwin) Jahner and Angeline Miller and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bob, and daughter-in law Kathy; granddaughter, Terra Mattheis, sisters:  Margaret Ternes, Phyllis Kuhn, Theresa Hager, Anna Marie Mosset, Agnes Mosset, Victoria Jahner, and a brother, Leo.
