Alice Naumann, 91, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Oakview Nursing Home in Burlington, IA. She was born Alice Regina Bernhardt on August 18, 1929 near St. Michael's in rural Emmons County, North Dakota, to Leopold and Frances (Kuntz) Bernhardt. She attended country school, and high schools in Bismarck, Napoleon and finally Linton, ND.
In her senior year, her father became ill and she dropped out of school to help run the family business, North Side Grocery store in Linton. One Friday evening, a handsome young man named LeRoy Naumann stopped by the store and chatted her up. They were married on April 20, 1949 and were married for 63 years until LeRoy passed in 2012.
Alice and LeRoy farmed from the time they were first married until 1975, when they bought the Oster Furniture store in Linton. LeRoy continued to farm while Alice ran the store, with LeRoy joining her in the off-season. They loved helping people decorate their homes. They retired in 1989.
Alice enjoyed reading, genealogy, oil painting and crocheting. She created many items of beauty that are treasured by family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law Shelley and Hal Morton of Burlington, IA; her grandchildren Anika and Alex Morton, sisters Ida Bauman of New Mexico, Rose Bernhardt, OSF of New York and Pauline Gerhart of South Dakota; 15 nephews and 17 nieces.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy, son Richard, four sisters (two in infancy), one sister-in-law, seven brothers-in-law, two nieces and one nephew.
