Aloysius Schmidt, 85, Linton, ND, died Sunday, November 17, 2013 in the Linton Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday Nov. 21, 2013 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton, ND with Rev. David Richter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the church where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.Aloysius was born April 12, 1928, near Orrin, ND on the family farm. He attended country school and graduated from Assumption Abbey High School, Richardton, ND. He attended Minot State Teachers College and taught in a Rural School. Aloysius married Delores Schell at Blumenfeld Church near Towner on October 14, 1952. They moved to Emmons County in 1958, and he taught school in the Linton area until he was elected Emmons County Judge and Clerk of District Court in 1962. In 1982, he was elected Emmons County Register of Deeds-Clerk of District Court, when the two offices combined. He also served as magistrate. He retired after 40 years of service in 2003.Aloysius was an Honorary Life Member of Knights of Columbus. He was also a school board member and was instrumental in the development of a new middle school and sports complex in Linton. He liked sports, reading and politics. Aloysius was an avid watcher of Fox News. He was a faithful man who loved his family and his church. Aloysius is survived by his wife, Delores, Linton, six children, Lenora (John) Jastrzebski, Williston, ND, Cletus (Rhonda) Schmidt, Linton, Paschal Schmidt, Bismarck, ND, Patricia Kingsley, Bismarck, Aloysius T. Schmidt, Jr. Bismarck, Dion (Jasmine) Schmidt, Pasco, WA, one son-in-law, John Schatz, Linton, 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren one brother, Benedict Schmidt, Arizona, six sisters, Pauline Bachmeier, Grand Forks, ND, Sister Leonida Schmidt, Fargo, ND, Gemma Bachmeier, Carrington, ND, Bernie (Daniel) Hager, Minot, ND, Caroline Schell, Mandan, ND and Monica (Larry) Fred, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews. Aloysius was preceded in death by his daughter, Delores Schatz and his son Joseph Schmidt, his parent's, and two brothers, Phillip and Ignatius.
