Alvena L. Hehn, age 90, of Pollock, SD., passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Strasburg Care Center in Strasburg, ND. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock, with Rev. Floyd Haan officiating. Visitation will be from 5-9 pm with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Spring Valley Cemetery. Alvena was born November 25, 1925, in Haynes, ND, to Peter and Alma (Wolff) Kirschenmann. Alvena graduated from the Pollock school in 1945.She married Walter Hehn on February 10, 1946, in Pollock. They made their home in the original town site of Pollock and relocated to the new site of Pollock in 1956. Alvena helped Walt at the school, worked at the restaurant, and would babysit for the teacher's children. They would also work on various farms in the area. Alvina attended the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was a housewife and the best cook in Pollock. Nobody made caramel rolls or kuchen like she did. Barbara said, "I always knew how many dishes I had to wash by the smells when I got home from school." Alvena was asked if she baked because she wanted to or because she had to and she said both. Alvena is survived by her 4 children, Dennis (Linda) Hehn, Long Beach, CA.,Barbara (Roy) Baggett, Murfreesboro, TN., Michael (Kim) Hehn, Clear Lake, SD., and Bradley (Kathy) Hehn, Sioux Falls, SD; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, Jason (Erin) Hehn (Kylie and Audrey), Littleton, CO, Jessica (Jimmy) Luyben (James III, Dillon and Declan), Long Beach, CA, Tim (Becky) Sells (Ariana), Nashville, TN, Mike (Ginny) Sells (Carson), Mt. Juliet, TN, Derrick (Sarah) Hehn (Hudson and Sawyer), Gretna, NE, Ryan (Kristen) Hehn (Payton), Monument, CO, Kami (Vince) Struble (Henry and Lily), Omaha, NE, Alicia Hehn, and Bryceton Hehn, both of Sioux Falls; and one brother, Wilmer (Lorraine) Kirschenmann, Aberdeen, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in 2000, and her parents.
