Alvina E. Pagel, 96, Strasburg, ND, formerly of Fargo, ND, died Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Strasburg Care Center, Strasburg, ND. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herreid, SD with Rev. Ramona Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Herreid, SD. Alvina was born April 5, 1917, in Campbell County, the daughter of John and Helen (Huber) Pudwill. She was raised on a farm near Herreid and attended country school. Alvina also attended beauty school and business school in Fargo, ND. Alvina married Elmer Pagel on April 13, 1942 in Moorhead, MN. Following their marriage, they lived in Fargo, where Alvina worked for New York Hairdressing Academy and for a business college. Alvina also worked as a clerk for Northern Pacific Railroad for several years, retiring in 1978. She continued to live in Fargo until moving to Pollock in 2003. Elmer died August 2003.Alvina lived in Herreid, SD at the Good Samaritan Center, for a time before moving to the Strasburg Care Center in 2011. Alvina enjoyed crafts and visiting with family and friends. She will always be remembered for her gift of a $2.00 bill at Christmas and birthdays. Alvina is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Irene and Eugene Perman, Sacramento, CA and Darlene Downs, Chandler, AZ, two sisters-in-law, Betty Pudwill and Gladys Pudwill, both of Herreid, SD, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Tony, Alvin and Wilmer, two sisters, Irna Hallam and Hilda Johnson and 3 nephews, Doug Keepers, Ron Hallam and Jim Hallam.
