Obituary

Angeline "Angie" Vander Laan, 87, Sturgis, SD, formerly of Pollock, SD died Saturday, January 15, 2011 in the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center in Sturgis. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Hope Reformed Church, Westfield, ND with Rev. Lane Keister and Rev. Floyd Haan officiating. Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 9 p.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Myers Funeral Home, with a family prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Angie was born on a farm owned by her Grandfather on April 18, 1923, the daughter of Will and Gertie (Plaggemeyer) Pool. She graduated from Strasburg High School in 1940. Angie married Isaac Vander Laan at Hope Reformed Church in Westfield, ND on October 7, 1943. She taught several country schools while Ike served his country. Ike and Angie farmed in the Westfield area until 1986 when they moved to Pollock. In 2006 they moved to Rapid City. Ike died on May 19, 2008. Angie died on January 15, 2011 in Sturgis, where she had resided since October, 2007. She was a member of Hope Reformed Church, Pollock American Legion Auxiliary and Past Presidents. Angie served as a 4-H Leader for 18 years. She enjoyed being involved in RCW, Farm Bureau Women and Birthday Club. Angie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed sending and receiving cards. Angie is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Sylvia and Gerry Fenske of Rapid City, SD, and Greta and Brad Kjetland of Watertown, SD; five grandsons: Gerald (Bette) Fenske II, Joel (Marcie) Fenske, Jason (Amy) Kjetland, Benjamin Kjetland and Michael (Darci) Kjetland; ten great grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Elsie Ryckman of Pollock, SD, Esther and Arnold Hasper and Donna and Wayne Fischer all of Aberdeen, SD; one sister-in-law: Mildred Vander Laan of Bismarck, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Genevieve Nieuwsma and one daughter, Etta Jean.
