Anna Volk Burgad, 99, passed away on June 16, 2017 at Bethany on 42nd Street, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday June 20, 2017 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. David Zimmer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, ND where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Anna was born at home, on a farm east of Strasburg, ND, on November 22, 1917 to Joseph H. and Elizabeth (Kramer) Volk. She attended rural school near Strasburg, two years at Strasburg Public School and also attended St. Benedict's High School. She worked with WPA (Works Progress Administration) during the depression to help the family. She also worked for Joe Bauman in his bowling alley in Strasburg. Anna married Kasper K. Burgad on January 27, 1942 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg. They made their home on the Kasper Burgad, Jr. homestead for 31 years. They made moves to Yakima, WA (1946), Richland, WA (1947) before moving back to the farm in 1949. Kasper died July 18, 1973 and Anna moved to Linton in October of 1973. She moved to Bismarck in 2002 and in 2014 she moved to Bethany on 42nd Street in Fargo, ND. Anna was a member of Christian Mothers, VFW Auxiliary, and the Bridge Club and served as treasurer for the bowling league. She loved to bowl, play darts and cards, dance, and crochet for her children, grandchildren, friends, or anyone who requested a doily, afghan or tablecloth. She made over 160 afghans in her lifetime. Anna is survived by her daughters, Jean (Roger) Sicble, Fargo, and Susan Burgad, Center, ND. She loved seeing her 4 grandchildren; Melanie (Sicble) May (fiancee Jason Fischer), West Fargo, ND, Jessica (Sicble) Bradley, Aumsville, OR, Shelly Fischer, Rapid City, SD, and Jason Fischer, Rapid City, SD, and 7 great-grandchildren; Jaden and Landen (Melanie), Mariah (Shelly), Carly (Jason); and Tristan, Noelle and Elijah (Jessica). She is also survived by two sisters, Helen (Constance) Johs, Springfield, OR and Esther (Edwin) Loeb, Redding, CA and one sister-in-law, Phyllis (Henry) Volk, Canby, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Henry and Wendelin and sisters Martina Kuss and her husband Frank and Bertha Scherr and her husband Eugene.
