Obituary

Benedicta Rose Scherr, 92, Strasburg, ND, passed away on December 23rd, 2018 at the Strasburg Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Saturday, December 29th, 2018 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg.

Visitation will be from 6-8 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm on Friday, December 28th, 2018 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg.

Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Benedicta was born on March 31 st , 1926 to Anton and Ida (Bernhardt) Wald. She grew up on the family farm east of Strasburg and attended country school through the 8 th grade.

She married the love of her life, Pius Scherr on November 25, 1946 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Strasburg.  They moved to Riverdale, ND for a short time and then to Pierre, SD.  After about seven years, they returned home to Strasburg and began farming. They built a home in Strasburg after retiring in 1987.  Benedicta and Pius were blessed with 70 years of marriage.

Benedicta lived to take care of her family and friends. She spent her entire life as a homemaker, a job she truly loved. Cooking and feeding people were especially important to her as she was always worried about what to make and that everyone would have enough to eat. She enjoyed playing cards, pinochle, and crocheting afghans. She made sure that every family member had a blanket she had made. Benedicta especially loved her family, children and grandchildren and spending time with them.

Benedicta is survived by two daughters, Darlene (Paul) Silvernagel, Minneapolis, MN, and Melissa Hulm, Wyndmere, ND;  daughter-in-law, Ida Scherr, Fargo; seven grandchildren, Craig (Melissa) Silvernagel, Jodi (Eric) Guest, Heidi Scherr and Scotti Scherr, Nicole (Jaren) Novacek, Miranda (Ryan) Kennedy and Cory Hulm; ten great grandchildren, Sam, Max, Sebastian and Janie Silvernagel, Tyler, Zachary and Kendra Guest, Jamison Scherr, Chase and Jaxon Novacek; 2 sisters, Marie (Pat) Kaikani and Alice (Jim) Johnstun; brother, Tony (Elaine) Wald; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pius; an infant son; son LeRoy; son-in-law, Randy Hulm; and 2 brothers, Martin and Felix Wald.
