Bernice Van Heukelom, 98, Strasburg, ND, passed away Monday, September 20, 2021.
Services will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hull Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Andrew Van Kuren officiating. Myers Funeral Home of Linton will be live streaming Bernice's service for any family and friends that can't attend at www.Myersfh.com under Bernice's obituary.
A public visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021, at Myers Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Hull Christian Reformed Church. (For anyone driving out to the visitation or service there is construction off Hwy 83 and the road is closed on 96th).
Burial will take place at the Hull Cemetery following the service.
Bernice Henry Van Heukelom was born in Emmons County, ND on November 10, 1922, the son of Dick and Jeanette (Huisingh) Van Heukelom. He was the oldest of 11 children. When Bernice was 4 years old, his mother passed away, so he and his sister Kathryn went to live with their grandparents until Dick remarried Molly Berndt. He attended Hull school. Bernice married Jeanette (Nieuwsma) December 7, 1953 on the Nieuwsma family farm. To this union 6 children were born. Bernice was a member of the Hull Christian Reformed Church. He was a Deacon on the church council, a member of the Men's Society, and a Sunday school teacher.
Bernice enjoyed reading anything regarding farming, watching westerns, and tinkering in the shop.
Bernice is survived by his four daughters, Winerva Van Heukelom, Strasburg ND, Edna (Jeff) Leadbetter, Lisbon ND, Berdene (Gary) Dykema, Strasburg ND, and Annette (Brian) Rohrich, Strasburg, ND; eight grandchildren, Amy (Jerry) Lauinger, Brad (Kayla) Dykema, Brian (Amanda) Dykema, Mark Dykema, Alyssa (Grant) Johnson, Linsey Leadbetter, Savannah Rohrich and Jesse Rohrich ; ten great- grandchildren, Josh, Katie, Shauna, Rebecca Lauinger, Blake and Kennedy Dykema, Layton, Garin, Kamden, Mari Ell Dykema and baby Johnson (due late winter); numerous nieces and nephews; Brothers and sisters, Willis Van Heukelom, Herreid SD, Elizabeth Dykema (Brian Jennings), Dickinson ND, Jerome (Beryl) Van Heukelom, River Falls WI, Leroy Van Heukelom, New Richmond WI, Dennis Miller, Hague ND, and Roger (Glori) Van Heukelom, Bismarck ND.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette (2012); twin sons, Larry Duane and Garry Dean (who passed away 64 years ago on this date);his parents and stepmother; sisters and brothers, Kathryn (Odvel) Lovo, Loretta (LaVern) Compaan, Dianne Van Heukelom, Glen (Bertha) Van Heukelom, Jerald (Ardyth) Van Heukelom, Louis Dykema, Judy Van Heukelom, and Pearl Miller.
