Bernice W. Kautz, 104, formerly of Linton, ND, died September 5, 2023 at the Strasburg Care Center. Memorial service will be held at 10:30am, Friday, September 15, 2023 at Peace Lutheran Church, Linton with Pastor Sean Barnhart officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck at 1:30pm on Friday.
Bernice was born on a farm near Linton on October 31, 1918, the daughter of Glen and Birdie (Lee) Woods. She attended country grade school and graduated from Linton High School in May of 1937. She attended 1 year of college at Mayville State College. She moved to Port Angeles, Washington with her parents in December of 1941.
Bernice married Paul H. Kautz on March 1, 1942 in Port Angeles, WA. To this union three children were born: Linda, Donald and Leslie.
Bernice worked part time as a secretary for the Juvenile Commissioner, until she took a job with the Linton Public School as secretary for 6 years. She also worked as an Executive Secretary for the Selective Service Board until the office closed. Paul and Bernice moved to Minot where she worked as clerk typist for 9 years until her retirement.
During her time in Linton, Bernice was a member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid, Women of the Church, LAW, Homemakers, American Legion Auxiliary and Auxiliary past president. She enjoyed crafts, bridge and painting.
Bernice is survived by her daughter, Linda Rambough; a son, Donald (Beth) Kautz; daughter-in-law, Denice Kautz; eight grandchildren: Kelly Ratajczak, Kara Dyke, Shawn Kautz, Michael Kautz, Mathew Kautz, Christopher Kautz, Jeramie Kautz and Sara Pazie; and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; a son, Leslie; five brothers: Carl, Ralph, Charles, Fred and Robert; four sisters: Ellen Tuttle, Ila Gutensohn, Anna Laura "Pat" Kinnally and Mary Jane Conn.
