Carol Jean Dykema, 96, Strasburg, North Dakota passed away at the Strasburg Care Center on November 19, 2021.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m., at the Hull Christian Reformed Church.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Hull Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Shawn Abass officiating. Myers Funeral Home of Linton will be streaming Carol's service for any family and friends that can't attend at www.Myersfh.com under Carol's obituary.

Burial will take place at the Hull Cemetery following the service.

Carol Jean (Hollaar) Dykema was born on September 10, 1925, to Aren (Ike) and Hattie (Haveman) on their farm south of Hull, ND, the 2 ^nd of 12 children. She attended Bakker School (#10) for 8 years. Following graduation from 8 ^th grade, she helped raised her younger brothers and sisters, assisting with farm work and anything that was needed.  She was a member of the Hull Christian Reformed Church, taught Sunday School, and was a bible leader for the young girls' society, as well as a member of the Golden Hour Circle and Ladies' Aid.

She married Ernest Dykema on October 28, 1947, in the parsonage at Hull, ND. They lived on a farm near Hull until they entered the Strasburg Care Center in 2017. They had four children, Ronald (Loreli) Dykema, Janet (Gary) Gilchrist, Sylvia Dykema, and David Dykema.

She was well known for her wonderful bread and bun making skills. When possible, Carol Jean made her famous cheesecake for each family member's birthday. She also called loved ones to sing "Happy Birthday" as recently as a couple of days before she passed, and sent cards to her many loved ones. She and Ernest would make freezers  of ice cream for the family at Christmas and other gatherings until recent years.

She was a strong prayer warrior and always had compassion, interested in anyone she met. She wrote the Hull news column for the Emmons County Record and Prairie Pioneer for 38 years, submitting her last column a week before her final day. She and Ernest volunteered at the Strasburg Care Center for many years, driving the van, leading bible studies, reading to residents, and assisting with Sunday chapel services.

She leaves 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren: Bobbi (Tim Bender) Dykema; Brett Dykema, Benjamin and Mary; Clint Dykema; and James (Nicole), Cara, Bridger, and Addison; Ryan (Erin) Gilchrist, Paige Klein, and Kaydee; Missy Gilchrist; Alexander (Huangyan) Blood, Sebastian; Mackenzie Blood, Anakin, Lynx, and Cairo; Micah (Megan) Breeden; Caleb Breeden.

She is survived by her husband Ernest of 74 years, her brothers James Hollaar and Lee (Ilean) Hollaar and sisters Frances Nieuwsma, Harriet Haak, Judy Van Beek, and Betty (Glenn) Vermeer, and sisters-in-law Lois Hollaar and Twylah Hollaar. Carol Jean is preceded in death by her brothers William (Bud) Hollaar, Eldon Hollaar, and Garry Hollaar; and sisters Evelyn Van Boven and Irene Anderson; sister-in-law Mildred Hollaar; brothers-in-law Lloyd Van Boven, Percy Anderson, John Haak, and Gerrit Nieuwsma; and daughter-in-law Mary Pollock Dykema.
