Daniel Klein, 91, of Bismarck, ND, formerly of Zeeland, ND, died July 26, 2011, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 30, 2011, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Zeeland, with Fr. Wenceslaus Katanga officiating. Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery, Zeeland, with Military Rites provided by the Zeeland American Legion. Visitation will be held on Friday beginning at 6:30 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:30 P.M. Daniel was born on December 4, 1919, in Zeeland, ND, the son of Anton and Elizabeth (Feist) Klein. He was raised and educated in Zeeland. He attended college at St. John's University in Collegeville, MN. He served in the U.S. Navy, Seaman 1st Class, during World War II. On October 15, 1941, Daniel married Katie Gabriel in Hague. After serving in the Navy they moved to the family farm north of Zeeland. Daniel taught rural school in District #7 for seven years while operating the family farm. He became the Zeeland postmaster in 1966 and retired in 1984. Dan and Katie enjoyed many trips to Postmaster's Conventions around the country. Dan was an avid fisherman and spent much of his spare time fishing with his friends and grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member of the Zeeland Lions Club and the Zeeland American Legion. Daniel is survived by his wife, Katie; sons Bob (Cheryl), Fargo, Jerry (Bev), Fessenden, Al (Cathy), Elwood, IN; daughter-in-law, Pat Klein, Bismarck; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Tony, Bismarck; three sisters: Antoinette Staudinger, Bismarck, Sr. Janeane Klein, Richardton, and Elizabeth Levi, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by a son, Dan, a daughter, Brenda, an infant stillborn son; two grandsons, Rob and Greg, and two brothers, William and John.
