Dean D. Hummel, 70, of Hague, ND, went to be with the Lord Friday, August 11, 2023 at his residence.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, August 19, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague, ND with Fr. Shannon Lucht officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, August 18 at the church in Hague.  There will be a rosary/vigil at 7pm.

Dean David Hummel was born February 1, 1953 in Aberdeen, SD To Ben and Alvina Hummel. They brought him home to the farm 3 ½ Miles North East of Hague where he spent most of his life.  He was the 5th child in a family of eventually 13 children.  He attended Hague Public School where he made many lifelong friends. After high school, he attended North Dakota State School of Science and earned a degree in parts management.  He worked various jobs in the construction field in Minneapolis and Bismarck. He returned to Emmons County and went into partnership with his brother Dennis, operating a service and repair business called D & D Skelly in Strasburg. After a couple of years, they sold the business and Dean moved back to Hague and began to farm.

On July 14, 1979, he married Connie Geffre.  In 1981 they took over the Hummel homestead farm and became the 3rd generation of Hummels to farm the land. Dean took great pride in his farm, the land, and his equipment, but his greatest pride were his children, and later his grandchildren.  He especially enjoyed attending their school activities and sporting events.

Dean was a very social person and enjoyed participating in various organizations, most notably as a member of the KEM Electric Board of Directors.  He was very knowledgeable on matters relating to rural utilities and would go the extra mile to do the research to ensure the best interest for the cooperative. He wasn't afraid to ask questions and could strike up a conversation with anyone from anywhere.  Dean was very skilled in carpentry, mechanical work, and was an overall handyman.  He was also very organized and made sure the job was done correctly and everything was cleaned up when done.

Dean was a devoted  husband, son, brother, father and grandfather.  After his father passed away, he visited his mother daily as well as his siblings and kids either by phone, or in person.

Dean loved attending auction sales, visiting thrift shops, and never went home empty handed.  Dean was also known to enjoy receiving a "free" cap whenever one was made available which was evident in his vast collection.

Dean is survived by his wife, Connie of 44 years and four children.  Rob (Mandy) of Sparks NV. Bryan of Bismarck ND, Kelli Ann (Matt McIntosh) of Rapid City, SD, and Cory(Katy) of Rapid City, SD.  Grandchildren include Trey, Tate, Brady, and Aubrie Hummel, Mason and Presley McIntosh, and Hayden and Cambri Hummel. Surviving siblings are Roger Hummel, Dennis (Mary) Hummel, Fran (Colleen)Hummel, Marilyn (Bob) LeClair, Cheryl (Barry) Baumgartner, Beverly (Tom) Voller, Bernard Hummel, Alan (Theresa) Hummel, Laura Schuster, Karla (Pat) Chamberlain, and Kelly (Laura) Hummel.  Also, numerous Nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his Father, Mother, Step Father Joe Eckroth and Sister Marlene.

It was hard to lose our Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother, we will know he is with us when we see a beautiful field of wheat in the sun, an antique car or tractor, or find a penny on the sidewalk.
