Dennis James Hummel, 77, of Hague, ND died on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Linton Regional Medical Center, Linton, ND, surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague. Visitation will be held Monday, November 11, 2024, from 6:00-7:00 PM with a rosary/vigil service at 7:00 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Dennis, son of Ben and Ella (Keller) Hummel was born February 25, 1947, and raised in Hague, ND. As a young child he attended Farm School in rural Hague and then graduated from Hague High School in 1965. After High School, he attended University of North Dakota (Ellendale) and then later transferred to University of North Dakota (Grand Forks) where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Arts. After college graduation, he taught Industrial Arts for one year before returning to the family farm. Upon returning to Emmons County, Dennis and his brother Dean owned and operated D & D Skelly in Strasburg, ND. He then purchased a dairy farm west of Hague that was his forever home. He loved to farm, go fishing, auto restoration, and working on farm equipment.

He then married the love of his life Mary on August, 29th 1981. They built their forever home on the farmstead and were inseparable from then on. Dennis and Mary loved going to auctions, restoring houses, spending time at Rice Lake, watching movies, and spending time with their grandkids and family. He especially loved telling stories, visiting with people, crossword puzzles, catching fish, and woodworking. Dennis was a man of faith who loved being part of his church and community. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and served two terms as County Commissioner. He always had a positive attitude and was willing to help others. Dennis was the go-to mechanic and often helped neighbors as well as random travelers who would stop by the farm, it was known in the area, "If Dennis Can't Fix It, Nobody Can". Some of his favorite things included family and friends visiting their farm, his animals, taking people fishing, and giving rides in his antique cars and tractors.

He is survived by his son Gerald (Sheila) Hartman of Puyallup, WA; granddaughter Savanna (Troy) Mattern of Strasburg, ND; and many siblings: Roger Hummel of Mandan, ND, Fran (Colleen) Hummel of Sioux Falls, SD, Marilyn (Bob) LeClaire of Goodyear, AZ, Cheryl (Barry) Baumgartner of Strasburg, ND, Bev (Tom) Voller of Hazelton, ND, Ben Hummel of Denver, CO, Alan (Theresa) Hummel of Milliken, CO, Laura Schuster of Volga, SD, Karla (Pat) Chamberlain of Aberdeen, SD, Kelly (Laura) Hummel of Brookings, SD, and Sister-in-Law Connie Hummel of Bismarck, ND, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary; parents: Ben and Ella Hummel; stepfather Joe Eckroth; his sister Marlene; his brother Dean; his grandson Garrett Hartman, and his mother and father in-law: Rita and Baldwin Geffre.

He will be missed by many, if you see a vintage tractor or car, think of Dennis.
