Donald Gene (Dick) Dykema passed away at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital on September 8, 2026 at the age of 66.  Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at the Hope Reformed Church, Westfield. Interment will be held in the Westfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service all at the Sannes Feist Family Funeral Home. Don was born on August 20, 1960 to Orville and Marlene Dykema at the Linton Hospital in Linton, ND. He joined a sister, Cindy. Later, they were joined by another sister, Rhonda, and a brother, Orville.

He attended Bakker School in Westfield, ND through the 6th grade. The family moved to a form north of Pollock, SD and he attended Pollock School. He graduated from Pollock High School in 1978.

He loved deer hunting with his dad, fishing with Grandpa Ike, and riding motorcycle with his friends. He enjoyed helping out on the farm, especially combining. After high school he went custom combining crew down south. While combining in Kansas, the oil fields peaked his interest so he moved to WaKeeney, KS. After about 10 years of hard work in the oil fields he went to work for Warren Construction where he was still employed and had been for 36 years. He had a tight friendship with his employer, Woody. They spent many evenings together in his backyard. Donny enjoyed that time so very much.

He loved gardening and was an avid bird watcher. He especially enjoyed relaxing with his beloved dog, Bud (named after his favorite beer), and Miss Kitty, his cat.

He was a member of the Eagles Aerie #3774 and was proud to be a part of the Eagle’s Community. He was a loyal Minnesota Viking fan sticking with his team through the good and bad times.

He was a big fan of rock and roll music and his cousin Darwin and him attended many concerts. Tom Petty was his favorite musician.

Don was survived by his mother, Marlene Dykema - Strasburg, ND; his significant other Jody Stearly - WaKeeney, KS; brother Ort (Joy) Dykema – Strasburg, ND; sisters Cindy (Merl) Ryckman – Pollock, SD; Rhonda (Troy) Holzer – Trail City, SD. 10 nieces and nephews, 9 great nieces and nephews, 6 aunts, many cousins and close friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Orville G. Dykema in 2005; great-grandparents Abel and Wilmina Dykema; Ike and Ann Dornbush, and best friend, “Bud”.
