Donald
Nieuwsma
Aug 21, 1946 — Nov 12, 2018
Lincoln
Donald was born on August 21st, 1946, in Eureka, SD to Peter and Genevieve (Pool) Nieuwsma. Donald was raised on his family farm near Hull, ND. He attended a rural grade school through 8th grade and then attended Strasburg High School.
On March 10th, 1966, he married Nancy Jones. Together they had four children, two sons, and two daughters. After many years of farming on the family farm, Donald moved on to construction, where he operated heavy machinery. In December of 2003, Donald and Nancy moved to Bismarck, leaving the farm to their son.
Donald loved to fish and travel. You could find him relaxing at home watching Wheel of Fortune or one of his favorite westerns. He was also the kindest, most hospitable person you ever met. He loved to visit with his friends, as there were no such things as strangers to Donald, only friends he hadn't made yet. But the thing Donald was the proudest of, was his big family, who he loved more than anything in the world.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, of 52 years; their two sons; Todd (Carrie) of Hague, ND, Michael (Michelle) of Manteca, CA, two daughters; Jaclyn (Conrad) Suechting of White Pine, MI and Stacy (David) Schumacher of Herreid, SD. 18 grandchildren; Aaron and Jordan Nieuwsma, Ashlee (Aaron) Kocher; Brayden, Blake, and Sophia Nieuwsma; Dale (Casie), Brandon, Seth, Anna, Joel, Luke, Mark, and Paul Davis Suechting; Madalyn, Colton, Nathan, and Tyson Schumacher. One great-granddaughter; Paislee Kocher. His siblings; Pearl (Albert) Luithle of Mott, ND, Preston (Barbara) Nieuwsma of Pollock, SD, Kay Selzler of Linton, ND, and Elwin (Heidi) Nieuwsma of Linton. His Sisters-in-law; Melayna Nieuwsma of Lakeville, MN and Maebel Nieuwsma of Herreid, SD. His Brother-in-law; Louis Vander Vorste of Pollock, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; infant brother Peter and infant brother Kenneth, Sandra (Sandy), Wilbur (Billy), Audrey Vander Vorste, James, and his grandparents.
