Donald L. Peterson, 70, formerly of Pollock, SD, died January 29, 2013 in the Strasburg Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Friday, February 1, 2013 at Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock, SD with Reverend Floyd Haan officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the church in Pollock. There will be a prayer service at 7:00pm. Don was born on March 17, 1942 in Linton, ND, the son of John and Leona (Mosset) Peterson. He was raised and educated in Pollock where he graduated from Pollock High School in 1961. He married Mary M. Vander Vorste on June 7, 1961 in Pollock, SD. Following their marriage, they farmed north of Pollock. He also did custom combining for several years . They also owned and operated Peterson Trucking Company and Kwik Stop beginning in 1979. Mary died on June 23, 1997. Don married Judy Umber on October 29, 1999 at the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church. They lived in Pollock and Mandan. Don has been a resident of the Strasburg Care Center since October 9, 2012. He was a member of the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, and the Stateline Snowmobile Club.. He enjoyed his trucking and loved to spend time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Judy Umber, Mandan, ND; two sons and daughters-in-law: Nick and Jackie Peterson, Gillette, WY, Dan and Sheila Peterson, Gillette, WY and Lyndel Peterson, Pollock, SD; one daughter and son-in-law: Tori and Terry Madden, Mound City, SD; thirteen grandchildren: Amanda, Nicole, Dani Mae, Nicholas, Charli, Derrick, Valerie, Austin, Bailey, Mary Margaret, Shauna, Chuck and Taylor and a Great-grandson, Cayden; two sisters-in-law: Teddie Vander Vorste, Bismarck, ND and Sandy Middleton, Hope Mills, NC; and step children: Deanne and Terry Grindberg, Bismarck, ND, Gregory and Barb Van Beek, Pollock, SD, Stacey and Jay Knudson, Mandan, ND, and Larry Jr. and Julie Umber, Pollock, SD; fifteen step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary in 1997 and two sons: Chuck and Doug.
