Obituary

Donald Wittmeier, 88, Pollock, SD, died Sunday, November 20, 2016 in Surprise, AZ. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock, SD with Rev. Floyd Haan officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6pm to 9pm at with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the church in Pollock.Donald was born in Brown County on August 19, 1928 to David and Pauline (Biesheuvel) Wittmeier. He graduated from Pollock High School and attended Northern State College. On November 24, 1949, Donald married Iva Vander Vorste in Pollock and they lived on a farm east of Pollock. Donald loved the farm and going to his children's and grandchildren's sports activities and he never missed a game or activity. He drove school bus for many years. Donald enjoyed going to Pollock every day to have coffee. Donald and Iva spent their winters in Arizona with their daughter, Marcia and for the past four years, Donald lived with her. He loved coming back to Pollock in the summer to visit with family and friends. Donald served on the Valley Telephone Board for thirty years and he also served on the SCS board and Spring Valley Cemetery board. He was a member and past Trustee of the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church. Donald is survived by his children, Marcia Bauer, Surprise, AZ, Dean (Linda), Aberdeen, SD, Michael (Joan), Pollock; 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Esther Reierson and Betty (Jerry) Rieker. Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Iva in November, 2012 and son-in-law, Jim Bauer, July, 2012, his parents, David and Pauline, and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
