Doris Borr was born November 9, 1921, in Churdan, Iowa, the daughter of Walter Dean and Esther (Ritz) Andrew. Esther moved with her children to South Dakota where the air was dryer because of Doris trouble breathing. They lived in Kidder, Pierpont and Britton where Doris graduated from high school. After high school, Doris attended Northern State Teachers College where she met the love of her life, Vern Borr. Vern sold his Harley to buy his Doris a diamond ring. The evening Vern graduated as a Naval Aviator, Vern and Doris were married in the Navy Chapel at the Naval Air Station at Corpus Christi, TX on October 9, 1943. Vern and Doris first child, Peggy, was born in the Navy hospital at the Air Station in Texas. After that, they moved to Pollock. Over the next several years three boys were added to the family; Terry, Lonny and Don. Doris was involved in the Pollock Presbyterian Church, including singing in the choir for over 30 years, and was a member of The Women in the Church. Doris was also a lifetime member of the Pollock American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Junior Matrons. Doris was known for having beautiful flowers around her home. Vern and Doris raised sheep. Peggy came home from school one day in the spring. Mom had thirty pens made from straw bales on the east side of the house with baby lambs and their mothers. Doris is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Peggy and Bob Evans of Turtle Lake, ND, two sons and two daughters-in-law: Terry and Jackie Borr of Rapid City, SD, Lonny Borr and fiance, Earlette Ebert of Phoenix, AZ, and Julie Borr of Pollock, SD; six grandchildren: Terri (Nathan) Phelps and Brandon Evans (fiance Tara) all of Turtle Lake, ND, Aaron and special friends, Jamie and James, Bryce (Heather) all of Rapid City, SD, Carly Borr of Sioux City, Iowa, and Sammy Borr of Pollock, SD; Great Grandchildren: Cody and Samantha Phelps and Belle and Tristen Evans; one sister-in-law: Ruth Borr of Bismarck, ND; three nieces, Patty Rehder and family, Susan Compaan and family, Jackie Zahn and family , one nephew: Forrest Borr and family. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vern on April 13, 2003, one son, Don on February 14, 2006, one brother and sister-in-law, Don and Evelyn Andrew, one brother in infancy and one brother-in-law, Kenny Borr.
