The funeral for Doris Della Daugherty, 93, Linton, ND will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Myers Funeral Home Chapel, Linton, ND with Rev. David Richter officiating. She died Monday, February 14, 2011 in the Linton Hospital. Doris Daugherty was born at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck the daughter of W.W. and Anita (Perras) Daugherty on May 16, 1917. She attended Hazelton Schools, graduating from Hazelton High School with the class of 1935. Following her high school graduation, she studied at St. Alexius Hospital to become a nurse, graduating in 1938. Doris worked as a nurse in Bismarck, Mandan, as well as hospitals in California and Minnesota. She was also a night nurse at the Samuel Merritt Hospital in Oakland, CA, where she was in charge of a 38-bed surgical ward. Then her experience of flying in a private plane changed her entire career, resulting in her becoming a stewardess of united Air Lines, flying the Salt Lake City-Cheyenne-Denver section of their coast-to-coast route. After her time as a stewardess, Doris moved back to the family farm in Hazelton. where she loved spending time. The house of her grandmother, Elise Perras, is now a museum in Hazelton. Her Grandmother, Elise, was the first postmaster of Hazelton and also had a millinery (hat) shop in her home. Doris eventually moved into Linton where she spent her remaining years. Doris enjoyed piano playing, dancing and fishing. She also enjoyed her time spent at her farm near Hazelton. Known survivors include four cousins ~ Mary Lou Geyen, Chaska, MN, Terri Johnson, Crystal, MN Sylvia Olson, Elizabeth, CO and Kay Ekberg, Longville, MN, who came to visit her each summer, enjoying her stories and memories of their families lives. Doris was preceded in death by her parents.
