Dorothy (Ryckman) Huizenga passed away peacefully on February 7th, 2021 at Mobridge Regional Hospital, at the age of 94 with family by her side.

Funeral Service for Dorothy will be on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 10:30 am at the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock with Rev. Floyd Haan officiating. Burial will follow at Westfield Cemetery, Westfield, ND.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock, SD.

Dorothy was born on December 1st, 1926 to Carl and Rena (Plaggemeyer) Ryckman. She was the oldest of 8 children. In 1943, Dorothy met Clarence Huizenga at the Hope Reformed Church in Westfield, ND. She fell in love with his sense of humor. On May 22nd, 1945, they got married at her childhood home. Dorothy and Clarence lived on a farm close to Westfield ND, where they raised 5 children. In 1982, they moved off the farm and into a home in Pollock, SD. They would spend many of their winters in McAllen, Tx.

Dorothy was always known for her heart of gold. She was a hard worker on and off the family farm. Before her marriage to Clarence she worked at a meat packing plant in Grand Forks, ND. Later, her passion for cooking lead her to work at the Westfield Elementary School as the Head Cook. Dorothy was blessed with varied talents that she shared with family and friends. Her green thumb proved fruitful to all who knew her. From her lavish vegetable gardens to her countless flower beds, you could often find many of her flower arrangements displayed on the alter many Sundays and fern leaf peony's adorning loved one's gravesites. Dorothy's hands were equally skilled with making beautiful afghans, lap robes and hats. Many of these were passed on as donations at community benefits as well to patients with cancer. As much pride as she took in gardening and crocheting, she gave to baking. Her fascinating wedding, anniversary, and birthday cakes were enjoyed by all. Dorothy dedicated spare time to playing cards with friends and family and was also a passionate Scrabble game player.

After Clarence's passing in 1998, Dorothy enjoyed spending her winters in Mesa, Az. This brought her closer to her Son Arnie Huizenga and Daughter Mavis Dutt. Then in January of 2020, she moved to The Good Samaritan Nursing home in Herreid, SD.

Dorothy is survived by her 5 children, Arnie Huizenga of Aberdeen, SD, Mavis (Marvin) Dutt of Mesa, AZ,

David (Kristy) Huizenga of Bismarck, ND, Dwight Huizenga of Pollock, SD and Darlene Hanson of Pollock, SD. Sisters Luella Boelkes of McAllen TX and Ann Sjomeling of Strasburg, ND. She was blessed with 10 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great- Great Grandchild. She enjoyed spending time with them and teaching them many of her trades.

Dorothy was proceeded in death by her Parents Carl and Rena Ryckman, Husband Clarence Huizenga, Brothers: Elmer, Willis, Gerald and Eddy Ryckman. Sister: Geraladine Schwan. Sister-in-law Arloene (Huizenga) Laskowski, Son-in-law Ralph Hanson, Daughter-in-law Charlotte Huizenga, and Grandson Eric Dienert.

Dorothy was humble, quite spirited, loved The Lord and was so grateful for all of the blessings she received throughout her life.
