Duwaine Jakobsen, 73, Pollock, SD, died Monday, November 18, 2013, in the Linton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2013 at Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock, SD., with Rev. Floyd Haan officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery, Pollock, SD. Visitation will be Thursday November 21, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home, and continue from 6-9 p.m. at the church where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour before time of service on Friday.Duwaine was born in Emmons County on April 30, 1940, the son of Francis and Ann (Weber) Jakobsen. He grew up on a farm in Emmons County and attended country school. Duwaine helped his dad on the family farm. Duwaine married Arlie Vander Vorste on April 30, 1958 in Pollock, SD. Following their marriage, they lived on the family farm where he continued farming and ranching. He especially enjoyed his cattle. His constant and beloved companion on his ranching endeavors was his spoiled precious dog, Bailee who went everywhere with him.Duwaine enjoyed horseback riding and going on trail rides, snowmobiling, camping, and car races. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends. He loved spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids, playing cards and Aggravation. Duwaine was a member of Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock, SD. Duwaine is survived by his wife of 55 years, Arlie of Pollock, SD, three daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Rick Chewakin of Pollock, Roxane and Oliver LaFave of Selby, SD, and Billie Jo and Troy LaFave of Pollock, seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two twin great grandsons due to arrive in March, two sisters-in-law, Vicki Jakobsen of Pollock and Gladys Jakobsen of Bismarck, ND, two brothers-in-law, Randy (Marcia) Vander Vorste of Plymouth, MN, and Merlin (Jean) Vander Vorste of Coon Rapids, MN, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Bailee.Duwaine was preceded in death by one son, Michael, his parents, two brothers, Kenny and O'Neil, and his mother and father-in-law, Garrie and Susie Vander Vorste.
