Obituary

Edmund Carl Gross, 87, Bismarck, ND, formerly of Strasburg, ND, died December 30, 2009 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg with Rev. Paul Eberle officiating. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Strasburg. Edmund was born August 25, 1922 on a farm near Hague, ND, the son of Carl and Barbara (Heilman) Gross. He attended Krassna School. When he was 16, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps at Sidney, MT. He married Ermina Welk at St. Marys Church in Hague, ND on October 24, 1944. They farmed south of Linton for two years, then moved east of Strasburg and farmed for 27 years. They moved to Bismarck in 1978. Ermina died November 19, 2002. Ed did construction work and worked at Simile Junior High until retiring in 1996. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking, walking, and spending time with family and friends. Ed will always be remembered for his love of the lord through praying the rosary and attending daily mass. He defied death several times and was known at St. Alexius as the man with nine lives. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Kenneth Gross of Bismarck, ND, Francis and Kathy Gross of Caledonia, WI, Gerald and Sandra Gross of Elyria, OH, Linda and Joe Puzzini of Bismarck, ND, Carol Peterson of Bismarck, ND, Sharon Gross of Bismarck, ND, David and Gloria Gross of Mukwonago, WI, Patricia and Bruce Carman of Bismarck, ND, Patrick and Theresa Gross of Harwood, ND, Terrance and Paula Gross of San Francisco, CA, Cynthia and Randall Fricke of Baldwin, ND, Duane and Ranee Gross of Bismarck, ND, Michele and Charles Douglas Ferguson of Magnolia, TX, Michael and Melissa Gross of Bismarck, ND and Annette Helm of Bismarck, ND; 35 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, eight brothers and three sisters-in-law: Mathias Gross of Benson, AZ, Pius Gross of Palmdale, CA, Joseph and Frances Gross of Woodburn, OR, Claude Gross of Rapid City, SD, Ambrose Gross of Loveland, CO, Anton Gross of Wishek, ND, Aluys and Margaret Gross of South Milwaukee, WI and Robert and Lori Gross of Milwaukee, OR; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Agnes and Walter Janusiak of Oak Creek, WI, Clara and John Bauer of Berlin, WI and Darlene and Paul Pritchett of Mission, TX, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2002, two children, Gabriel and Joseph, two grandchildren, Calvin John Gross and Daniel Francis Gross, son-in-law, Daniel Peterson and five sisters-in-law: Carla Gross, Kathleen Gross, Elizabeth Gross, Delores Gross and Mary Lou Gross.
