Edward Vetsch, 88, of Linton, ND, died October 5, 2010 at the Strasburg Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am Saturday, October 9, 2010 at St., Anthonys Catholic Church, Linton with the Reverend David Richter officiating. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Linton. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the Myers Funeral Home, Linton and from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the church. There will be a prayer service at the church at 7:00pm. Edward was born February 12, 1922 in Emmons County, the son of Balzer and Bernadina (Gefre) Vetsch, He was raised and educated SE of Linton. Edward served in the US Army from 1942 to 1946 in Rhineland and Central Europe. Edward was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his bravery during the European Theater. He married Mary Gefre at St. Aloysius Catholic Church on October 8, 1946. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed near Wishek. In 1957, they moved to a farm near St. Aloysius Catholic Church. They farmed there until purchasing a farm north of Linton. They moved to Linton in 1982 and continued to farm. Edward retired from farming in 2006. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization, serving on the Milk Board, Knights of Columbus and served on Odessa School Board. Edward enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, playing cards, watching the Minnesota Twins, farming and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife: Mary Vetsch of Linton, ND; six sons and daughters-in-law: Richard and Pauline Vetsch of Horace, ND, Gary and Louise Vetsch of Horace, ND, Jim and Collette Vetsch of Horace, ND, Jerome and Terri Vetsch of Bismarck, ND, Kenny and Carlotta Vetsch of Bismarck, ND Tom and Charlet Vetsch of Hazelton, ND; three daughters and sons-in-law: Betsy Vetsch of Linton and special friend, Dennis Meuchel, Bernie and Dave Schmidt of Linton, ND and Rosalind and Larry Leier of Hague, ND; twenty five grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and one sister and brother-in-law: Betty and Caroll Fink of Milwaukee, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Aloys, Leonard, Wendelin and Wilfred and five sisters: Irene Speed, Helen Rillera, Berdina Brendel,. Marie Rohrich and Stephina Zacher.
