Eleanor Scherr, 91, Oakes, formerly of Strasburg, ND, died Tuesday, November 29, 2011 in the Oakes Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2011 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with Rev. Paul Eberle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church on Friday. Eleanor was born May 21, 1920 in Linton, ND, the daughter of Wendelin and Natalie (Miller) Kramer. She was raised and educated in the Krassna area. Eleanor married Kasper Scherr on September 15, 1941, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Krassna. They made their home in Strasburg before moving to a farm five miles southwest of Strasburg. They moved back into Strasburg in 1948, but continued to farm. In 1950 they began farming in the Zeeland area until 1983, when they moved to Bismarck. In 1997 they moved back to Strasburg. Kasper died on February 2, 1998. Eleanor moved to Oakes in 2006 where she died on November 29, 2011. Eleanor enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, baking and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her delicious homemade bread. Eleanor was a member of St. Mary's Society and Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. She is survived by nine sons and ten daughters-in-law: Robert and Loretta Scherr of Bismarck, ND, Wayne and Sandy Scherr of Vancouver, WA, Marvin and Donna Scherr of Ames, IA, Terry and Diane Scherr of Marshalltown, IA, Daniel and Miranda Scherr of Fargo, ND, John and Donna Scherr of Oakes, ND, Thomas and Joyce Scherr of Zeeland, ND, Gerald and Julie Scherr of Dickinson, ND, Timothy and Peggy Scherr of Sioux Falls, SD and Laurette Scherr Nagel of Bismarck, ND, 18 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two brothers and one sister-in-law, Eddie and Helen Kramer, Strasburg, ND and Gene Kramer, Grand Forks, ND, one sister and brother-in-law: Sybella and Joe Fettig of Aberdeen, SD and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1998, two sons, one in infancy and Randy in 1998, one grandson, Jason Scherr, seven brothers and five sisters.
