Obituary

The funeral for Elizabeth "Betty" Scherr will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, ND with Rev. Paul Eberle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Home and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church in Strasburg where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services on Thursday at the church. Elizabeth died Tuesday, Febraury 15, 2011 in the Strasburg Care Center. Elizabeth was born February 16, 1923 on a farm near Hague, ND, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Holzer) Buechler. She attended country school. Betty helped out on the farm and other farms in the area. She married Sebastian V. Scherr at St. Aloysius in Strasburg on June 23, 1949. Following their marriage, they farmed in Napoleon and then moved to Temvik. In 1967 they moved into Strasburg. Elizabeth worked at the Strasburg Care Center in housekeeping. Sebastian died on December 22, 1990. After his death, Betty continued to work at the Strasburg Care Center until she retired. She enjoyed gardening, cooking baking, weaving rugs, playing cards and especially spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed watching "Wheel of Fortune" and "Days of Our Lives." Betty will be remembered for her deep faith. She was a member of St. Mary's Society. Betty is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law: Jerome and Martha Scherr of Oklahoma City, OK, David Scherr, Allen and Cindy Scherr and Mark and Jody Scherr all of Strasburg, ND; five daughters and sons-in-law: Florence and Myles Deisz of Bismarck, ND, Diane and James Jones of Sierra Vista, AZ, Louella and Michael Denny of Safety Harbor, FL, Carol and Rulon Jessop and Sandy and Scott Eldred, all of Osakis, MN; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Ferdinand Buechler of Strasburg, ND, John and Alice Buechler of Minot, ND and Aloys and Janice Buechler of Iowa; and one sister and brother-in-law: Ann and Tom Santos of Cocoa Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Virgil, one grandson, Derick Deisz, two brothers: Martin Buechler and Carl Buechler and two sisters, Marianna Zacher and Clara Zahn.
