Emma was born May 29, 1915 on a farm in Emmons County, the daughter of Fred and Freda (Bender) Reimer. She grew up in the Omio area. Emma married Adam Schmierer on September 16, 1924 in Linton. They had one daughter, Corrine Gallup. Adam died January 15, 1969. Emma then married John Umber on December 16, 1969 in Linton. She worked at the Linton Hospital and the Linton Hatchery. Emma was a lifetime member of Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and visiting with family and friends. Emma is survived by two sisters: Elsie Weber of Strasburg, ND and Ruth Sandwick of Linton, ND; two stepsons and daughters-in-law: Richard and Violet Umber of Detroit Lakes, MN and Don and Barb Umber of Cobb, CA; four step daughters and sons-in-law: Geraldine and Don Putnam of Wikenburg, AZ, Delores and Leo Masset of Linton, ND, Lillian and Ivan High of Sandy, OR, and Pearl and Larry Gregor of Gresham, OK; four grandchildren and 34 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her daughter, Corriene Gallup, her grandson, Cory, three brothers, Albert, John, and Eugene, and two sisters, Martha and Ann.
