Eugene (Gene) Glass, 82, Strasburg, ND, died Friday, January 5, 2018 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, ND with Fr. Benny Putharayil officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Military Honors will be provided by Strasburg VFW and ND Military Funeral Honors.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Home, Linton where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Eugene Glass was born on January 9, 1935 to Mathias and Christine (Scherr) Glass on a farmstead near Linton, ND.  He was united in marriage to Laverne Baumgartner on June 25, 1962 at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Strasburg, ND.  Together they raised three children.

While serving in the ND National Guard for three and a half years, Eugene was drafted into the Army where he served in France from 1957 – 1960.  Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Eugene returned to Linton where he served as a meat cutter at a grocery store in Linton.  Eugene and Laverne moved to Milwaukee, WI in 1965 where Eugene worked as a meat cutter at Cudahy Meats, moving to Lehr, ND 14 years later to own and operate a grocery store.  In 1984 they moved to Strasburg, where he worked for the Strasburg School System until he retired and continued to reside until his death.

Eugene loved to play his guitar and sing old time country and Elvis songs.  He loved to dance and talked about how he and Laverne used to love to dance together.  He enjoyed getting together with his friends for coffee at the C-Store in Strasburg.  The most important thing to Eugene were his grandchildren, he would talk about them to anyone who would listen.   He was so proud of them all and even complete strangers could tell you at least one special thing about each one.

Eugene is survived by his children:  Karen (Rick) Wanner, McKinney, TX, Bruce (Stacy) Glass, Otsego, MN, and Joseph (Melissa) Glass, Detroit Lakes, MN; his grandchildren: Nathan (Nicole) Schweigert, Jessica Schweigert, Katherine and Grace Glass, Elizabeth (fiancée William Hatfield), Zakary and Emily Glass; great grandchild: Logan Schweigert; sisters: Frannie Graf, Alvina Schell; and brother: Melvin (Irene) Glass.

He was preceded in death by his wife Laverne in 2007, parents, brothers, Aloysius, Edmund, Peter, Andrew, Victor and Pius and sister, Lorraine.
