Eugene was born April 8, 1922 in Hillsview, SD, the son of Frank L. and Anna Mary (Kelsch) Malsom. He attended school in Hillsview. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for 6 months. The Malsom family moved to a farm west of Linton in 1941. Gene married Katherine Schell at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on January 21, 1947. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed west of Linton . They retired and moved into Linton in 1982. He is a life member of the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters, and Linton Senior Citizens. Gene enjoyed collecting fossils, rocks and arrowheads, playing cards, traveling and visiting with his family and friends. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Bob and Linda Malsom, Bruce, WI, Donny Malsom, Linton, ND and Jimmy and Judy Malsom, Maplewood, MN; daughters: Sheila Milleon, North Beach, MD and Kathy Gustafson, Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law: Pius and Jenny Malsom, Minot, ND, Larry and Eileen Malsom, Linton, ND, and Paul Malsom, Linton, ND; sisters and brothers-in-law: Francis Hoppert, Detroit Lakes, MN, Delores and Matt Meier, Eugene, OR and Elizabeth and Terrance Owens, Coos Bay, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2009; brothers: Joe, Ben and John and sisters: Melonia Materi and Rose Mary Hussey
