Eva Heyne, 86, formerly of Linton, ND died May 26, 2026 in the Strasburg Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 1, 2026 at Peace Lutheran Church, Linton with Pastor Sean Barnhart officiating. Interment will be held in the Linton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at the Sannes Feist Family Funeral Home, Linton. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Eva was born on April 24, 1940 in Neudorf, Odessa, Ukraine to August and Eva Gienger, she was baptized there on December 26, 1942. In 1944 her family relocated to Bavaria, Germany where she was confirmed on April 11, 1954. In 1959 she immigrated to America and settled in Linton, ND. It is in Linton where she met and fell in love with Marvin. Eva and Marvin were married on December 26, 1961 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bismarck, ND. At this time, Marvin was serving with his National Guard unit at Fort Riley, Kansas. They spent the beginning years of marriage in Kansas before settling back in Linton. Three children completed their family: Robert, Eva and Carla. Together, they raised their children, providing a strong foundation of love filled with laughter, dancing, accordion music and a lifetime of cherished memories.

Eva enjoyed traveling, she and Marvin traveled to Hawaii, Haiti, Niagara Falls, South Carolina and Germany. As her children grew up, married and moved away, she traveled to visit them in Washington and Minnesota as much as possible to spoil her grandchildren: Eva, Grace, Aaron and Jacob. Eva enjoyed sharing her love of travel with her family and took destination trips with them to Disney World, Las Vegas, Memphis, Branson, Mexico and back to Germany. Decorative plates and spoons  from her travels are still proudly displayed in her kitchen. Eva also enjoyed gardening, sewing, swimming, camping and music – especially listening to Marvin play the piano or accordion.

Young at heart, she was feisty, had a mischievous spirit and was always up for a good prank. Competetive and strong willed, she made every card and pool game or round of golf interesting, often times changing the rules as the games were in progress. She had a zest for laughter that was unmatched and created an extraordinary life for her family and all who knew her. She had a beautiful soul; those around her always knew they were loved.

Eva balanced a vibrant family life with many distinct chapters of work and service. Over the years, she worked as a seamstress, waitress and grocery clerk. Proving it is never too late to learn, she earned her GED and went on to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) on the Linton Ambulance team. In later years, she worked for Rosenbluth International Travel Agency (which later became American Express). This played beautifully into her love of travel.

Faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was incredibly active in Peace Lutheran Church as a Council Member, Chair of the Harvest Festival Committee, a Choir singer, a quilter, a member of the Ladies’ Aide and a Sunday school helper. She was truly amazing.

Though dementia took a toll on her in later years, it couldn’t erase who she was. We are deeply grateful to the Strasburg Care Center staff for the love and care they gave her. Even on the hard days, that familiar glint in her eyes and her signature smirk or raised eyebrow proved her beautiful spirit was still there and she was still listening. Her hand grip stayed strong and if you could get your fingers wrapped in hers, it felt like a hug. Eva’s loss happened in stages and she faded bit by bit until this final goodbye. In death, we know she is reunited with Marvin and living as we remember her: full of life and dancing. She will be missed beyond measure.

Eva is survived by her three beloved children: Robert Heyne, Eva (Andy) Carcione and Carla (Kevin) Ferriby; her four grandchildren: Eva (Evan) Pawlyk, Grace (Scott) Mattes, Aaron Carcione (Mariah) and Jacob (Danielle) Heyne; and two great grandchildren: Dean and Riley Pawlyk; her sister, Lilli (Melvin) Wohl; and brother-in-law, Eli Vetter.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Marvin; her parents and many siblings and relatives.
