Harold A. Hirvela, 82, Linton, died in Bismarck, ND, on May 4, 2016 at CHI St. Alexius Hospital where he was born on August 20, 1933. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church, Linton, with Pastor Sean Barnhart officiating. Burial will be in the Linton Cemetery.Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m.Harold (Gus) was the only child of Gust and Edna (Schock) Hirvela. He grew up in Hazelton, ND, where he excelled in sports and in his youth helped build St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict after graduating from Hazelton High School. Harold married Laura Beitelspacher in 1971. They had three children.Harold had many jobs during his lifetime, including Cenex bulk truck driver, insurance salesman, school bus driver for Gallup-McKinley County in N.M. and Standing Rock Schools and construction work. He farmed with his dad and loved tilling and harvesting the soil. Harold was very skilled at working with his hands and could fix anything. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Linton. Harold is survived by his wife, Laura, Linton; children and their spouses, Patrick (Marie) Hirvela, Sanna (Mike) Bader, all of Bismarck, and Gus (Danielle) Hirvela of Tokyo, Japan; 8 grandchildren, Kylee Potter, Kaitlyn Hirvela, Alexin (Mike) Rye, Courtney Hirvela, Leighton Bader, Erin Hirvela, Hunter Hirvela and Jacob Hirvela; mother and father-in-law, Lyla and Neil Beitelspacher; two sisters-in-law, Linda (Tim) Nierhake, Lianne (Mike) Weninger; 2 brothers-in-law, Les (Audie) Beitelspacher and Leon (Therese) Beitelspacher, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents.
