Harold "Sam" Hoffman, 74, of Herreid, SD, died October 11, 2011 at a Mandan Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 7:00pm Friday, October 14, 2011 at Myers Funeral Home Chapel, Linton with Fr. Paul Eberle and Fr. Thomas Clement officiating. Burial will be at a later day at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday from 12:00pm to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Harold was born on April 24, 1937 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Goldie (Godfrey) Hoffman. He was raised and educated in Sioux City. He also attended college at Arizona State University in Phoenix, AZ. He served in the United States Air Force and United State Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Harold married Kathy Heier in Winterhaven, CA on June 7, 1969. Following their marriage, they lived in several places before settling in Herreid, SD. Harold worked in the oil field industry, did trucking and construction. He retired at the age of 62, but continued to work for South Dakota Game and Fish. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, Herreid, SD; three sons: Curt Hoffman, Kim Hoffman and Sand Hoffman all of Texas; one daughter, Shannon Russell, Goddard, KS and a step daughter, Nancy Kurtz, Devils, Lake, ND; two grandsons: Kegen and Kyler Russell, both of Goodard, KS; three step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law: Steven Michael Russell; one brother, Elmer Jr. and two sisters: Elizabeth and Elsie.
