Harvey Harold Langeliers, 95, of Pollock, SD, died Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Villa Maria in Fargo, ND, surrounded by family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2015 at Pollock Lutheran Church, Pollock. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery, Pollock. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, ND. Harvey Langeliers, the son of Edward and Jennie (Westbrook) Langeliers was born on January 4, 1920 in the sod house on their farm in Emmons County, North Dakota, the fourth of seven children. He attended country school through the eighth grade. Harvey was drafted into military service April 8, 1942 returning home October 14, 1945. He married Katherine Reierson on December 19, 1950 and they made their home and worked together on the farm raising four children: Timothy, Gregory, Lance Todd and Melissa.Harvey loved the land and the people of Pollock. In the last three years or so, Harvey resided at the Villa Maria Nursing Home where he was the loving friend and "grandpa" to staff, residents and visitors. However, Pollock was always special in his heart. A friend at the nursing home put it this way: "When Harvey came back from a trip to Pollock he always had new juice." Farmer, rancher, husband, father but the role that stood out over all the rest was GRANDPA. Harvey was the official "Grandpa" to ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren but he also was Grandpa to countless others including the day care children at the Villa Maria Nursing Home. There was the son of the Villa staff member who volunteered at the Nursing Home one summer. He loved hearing stories of the farm and really wanted to come to Pollock with Harvey one day.Harvey - a child of the 20's, a product of the 30's, a warrior of the 40's serving in air, sea and land invasions of three continents. Walked over and on and given up for dead on the field of battle. Over six months hospitalized from combat injuries. He hitchhiked home after discharge to nothing but family. He built and nourished a farm, a family, and a community of friends becoming the gentle, kind, giving, magnanimous man that we all know.Harvey is survived by his four children: Tim (Annie Kinsella) Langeliers; Greg (Susan Hoffman) Langeliers; Todd Langeliers; and Lisa (Dave) Becker; ten grandchildren: Laura (Randy) Lopez; Ashley (Justin) Langeliers; Nikala (Josh) Fettig; Kelsey; Jose; Abby; Khloe; Austen; Ethan; and Taylor; and two great grandchildren: Dylan and Kenadee.Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine and grandson Lance Cole, his parents, Ed and Jennie, his siblings and their spouses Lawrence and Katie Langeliers, Ellen and Ed Pfeifer, Lucille and George Bader, Walt and Vi Langeliers, Eddie and Edna Langeliers, Don and Norma Langeliers, and brother-in-law Ray Acheson and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Woodrow and Phyllis Reierson.
