Hilda Flegel, 90, Bismarck, ND, died Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society, Bismarck, ND. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Linton United Methodist Church, Linton, with Rev. Cori Waisanen officiating. Burial will be in Linton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Myers Funeral Home, Linton. Visitation will continue one hour before time of service on Thurs Hilda Flegel was born on December 23, 1922 to Phillip and Otillie (Weidner) Frank on a farm north of Dodge, ND. Hilda attended rural elementary school until 8th grade. Hilda's mother had passed when she was ten years old so the children were "farmed out" to various relatives. When Hilda was 16, she moved to Bismarck where she worked as a waitress. While working, she met her future husband, Edwin Flegel. Edwin and Hilda were married in Wibaux, MT on May 23, 1943. Hilda and Edwin settled on a farm just outside of Linton and then moved to a farm east of Hazelton. In 1960 they sold that farm and moved to a farm southwest of Hazelton where they resided until retiring and moved to Linton. They were long time members of United Methodist Church of Linton, ND. Hilda worked various jobs such as the baker at Top's Caf. People came from all over the United States to eat Hilda's pastries. Hilda also worked a number of years for the Green Thumb program where she started a Thrift Shop. She also baked at the Senior Center and was a CNA at the Strasburg Nursing Home. Hilda was a hard worker. She retired at age 72. Hilda loved to travel, play Bingo and visit with family. She had a gift of caring for everyone who was in her presence. She was always ready to help anyone and everyone who needed a helping hand. Her compassion for others was always shown and she never ever wanted to burden anyone with her troubles. Her gift to everyone was unconditional love. Hilda leaves behind two sons and three daughters-in-law, LeRoy and Val of Medina, ND, Virgil and Nancy of Lincoln, NE, and Patti Flegel of Hazelton, ND, four daughters and two sons-in-law, Pamela Bosch of Columbus, NE, Connie and Chuck Connley of Helena, MT, Annette and Philip Anfinrud, of Rockville, MD, Rhonda Flegel of Bismarck, ND, 25 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, two brothers, Elmer Frank of Palm Desert, CA, Wilbert Frank of Lompoc, CA, and there were also many special nieces and nephews that Hilda cared for. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin in 1985, her parents, a daughter, Janice Holzer, a son, Arlo Flegel, granddaughter, Elizabeth Flegel and grandsons, Samuel Flegel and Layton Jahner, three brothers, Walter Frank, Emil Frank and Edwin Frank and three sisters Irene Rienhardt, Erna Link and Elsie Pfenning. day at the church.
