Hilda Jones, 100, formerly of Pollock, SD, died September 11, 2012 in the Strasburg Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock, SD with the Reverend Floyd Haan and Reverend John Cedar officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Valley cemetery. Visitation will be for 1 hour before the services at the church on Tuesday. Hilda Clara Vikse was born on February 22, 1912, to Hans and Karen Larsen Vikse on a farm northeast of Pollock in Emmons County, North Dakota. She attended the Baker School the first six grades then several months in Aberdeen, S.D. In 1924 she moved into Pollock with her parents where she finished the grades and high school. She attended Ellendale Normal one year and taught rural school three years. She married Lester Jones December 23, 1933 and they lived in Pollock with the exception of several months in Minneapolis and time Lester worked in defense work in various places during the war; the longest time was in the Bremerton, WA shipyard. Hilda's health caused them to move back to SD in 1943. Later years when there wasn't much work in Pollock he worked in Pierpont, SD, helping build a cheese plant there and for the hardware store. Hilda had been baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church but in 1939 she joined the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the "Women in the Church" WIC. She taught the nursery class in Sunday school many years, she was a member of the Stonecraft Bible Study group, the Senior Citizens, the Senior Thursday Club, a birthday club, and a health club. Hilda liked to read, knit, crochet, and be with friends and relatives. She is survived by her son, Lyle Jones, one granddaughter, Lesley Glassford and her husband Brian, one grandson, Kenneth Jones and his wife Sandy, six great-grandchildren, Rachael Elizabeth Lee (husband Matt, son Trevor and daughter Zoey), Rebecca Ellen Jones (son David), Brittany Hoy (husband Charley and daughter Symphony), Bethany Calvo (husband Christian), Bayley Glassford, Andrew Jones, and also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Lester, her daughter-in-law Ellen Ann (Cedar) Jones, her brother, Monrad Vikse, and three sisters, Anna Hagen, Sena Osman, and Ida Alveson.
