Howard Reierson, 82, Pollock, SD passed away peacefully with his beloved wife, Esther, and family at his side on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Havasu Regional Medical Center, Lake Havasu City, AZ. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2015 at Pollock Lutheran Church, Pollock. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the church, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Howard was one of three children, born to Harold and Inga (Holt) Reierson on November 10, 1932 in Eureka, SD. He was raised on the family farm in Pollock, SD and graduated from Pollock High School in 1950. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952 1956 as Airman First Class. He and his beloved wife, Esther Caryl Wittmeier, were married on May 22, 1953 in Pollock, SD, and proudly and adoringly, they would have celebrated 62 years of marriage this year. They resided in Virginia at Langley Air Force Base, where their daughter, Barb, was born in 1954. In 1956, they moved back to the family farm where their sons, Wayne and Allen, were born. He continued to work his family farm until his retirement. Howard touched the lives of many people with his sense of humor, love for people, generosity, love of music, dancing and Norwegian jokes. He had an inspirational faith and love for Christ, which he and his beloved wife, Esther both shared.Howard was very civic minded and was recognized for soil-moisture conservation, irrigation pioneer/innovator, and was proud of the 129 year history of a centennial farm. He was also Sexton of Spring Creek Lutheran Cemetery. Howard was a member of Pollock Lutheran Church, American Legion Walter West Post # 272, Pollock Housing Corporation and Pollock School Board chairman and member. Howard loved fishing and farming. He spent countless hours riding in the tractor during spring's work, and again in the fall during harvest, which he continued doing through this past year. He was always willing to share stories of farming/ranching in the old days and was amazed by farming technology. Howard loved spending his winters in California where he enjoyed countless friends in Bermuda Palms for 18 years. He especially loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He took pride in carrying the flag for special events and always felt very honored to have served his country.Howard will forever be in the hearts of his devoted wife, Esther, Pollock; his children, Barbara Reierson, Bismarck, Wayne (Sara) Reierson, Pollock, Allen Reierson, Pollock; grandchildren, Joel (Tracy) Reierson, Michelle (Michael) Nieuwsma, Jordan Reierson, Ashley Reierson, McKenzie Reierson, , Dustin (Kayla) Reierson, Brooke Reierson and step granddaughter, Emily Wheeler; his treasured great-grandchildren, Ashton Colton and Gage Reierson, and Brayden and Blake Nieuwsma; and his devoted sister, Gloria Fuhrer, Bismarck.He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister and two brothers-in-law, Mabel (Peter) Bauer and Edward Fuhrer. He will be remembered fondly by many relatives and friends throughout this community and his winter home in Earp, California.
