Idora Schmidt, 89 of Hazelton, ND, had a strong faith and love for Jesus. She was receiving care at Sanford Health when the Lord called her home April 15, 2024.   Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, April 19, 2024 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Hazelton, ND with Fr. Mark Aune officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5pm to 6pm on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the church in Hazelton.  There will be a rosary/vigil at 6pm.

Idora was born February 24th 1935 to Anton C. and Dorathea (Haegele) Wald in Napoleon ND. Idora married Leo Schmidt on November 14th, 1955  at St Philip Neri Catholic Church Napoleon ND. It was a stormy day but they didn't mind. They still danced and enjoyed the special day. Together they raised 6 children. In the 1960s they moved to Hazelton, where Idora would run parts for Leo's Repair business. She was active in the Altar Society and played Horseshoes.

After all of her children left the nest, she branched out into the workforce and began working at Napoleon Care Center. She enjoyed working there and visiting with all the people she knew while keeping the Center spotless. She had a love for cleaning and really enjoyed it.

Idora had a passion for sewing and was a great seamstress. She would spend hours making outfits for her children, and her husband's Polka band, "The Night Owls", as she was their biggest fan. She always enjoyed "The Night Owls" as much as Leo and could be found at all his performances. Idora loved to dance and she could dance her heart out. She could often be found dancing a polka in the kitchen while she cooked. When not playing in the band Idora and Leo would go to Polka Parties and often win 1st place in the dance contests. They danced like their marriage, always in sync.

Idora was the best wife, mom, grandma and great grandma. Her door was always open to anyone. She loved kids and they were always welcome to the house to play and have cookies. When her grandkids would come over it was cookie baking time! She would put on "The Night Owls" music and teach the kids how to polka.  Her grandkids loved her quick wit and humor.

So happy to have shared her life was Leo, her best friend for 68 years. Together they had 6 children:  Dorothy (Stan) Naumann Linton, Diane Schmidt Bismarck, Darlene (George) Holkup Wilton, Steve Schmidt (Laurie) Bismarck, Debb (Chris) Long Fargo, and Donna (Jeff) Magrum Hazelton; 16 Grandchildren and 36 Great Grandchildren, Her brother Conrad "Jim" (Pat) Wald Antigo, WI; Many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters:  Joe (Pauline) Wald, Barbara (Adam) Schmaltz, Veronica (Dennis) Henley, Leo (Rose) Wald, Louis (JoAnn) Wald, Mary (Frank) Fettig,  and Cyrella (Andrew) Wangler.
