James Joseph Gefroh, 52, was born on June 17, 1960 in Linton, North Dakota, the son of Aloysius M. and Mary Ann (Schumacher) Gefroh. As a young man, he worked on the family farm until graduating from Emmons Central, Strasburg, ND, in 1978. Soon after he met and married Shelly Jo Halbakken. In the years to follow he owned a construction company in Florida and later raised his three children in Louisiana. In 2001, he returned to North Dakota and remarried having an additional four children. James spent his past few years as a truck driver which became a hobby as much as it was an occupation. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, farming, western movies, playing cards and most of all, spending time with his family. He was a jack-of-all-trades, and seemed able to do or fix almost anything. He was a very hardworking man who took pride in his work, family, and home. He was a wonderful, devoted father that loved his children more than anything. On February 27, 2012, James was diagnosed with Stage Four Glioblastoma Brain Cancer with a prognosis of 4-6 months. James, always a fighter, surpassed all expectations and was able to enjoy almost eleven months with what mattered most to him, his family. On January 8, 2013, he was called home for rest. He was preceded in death by his father, Aloysius Gefroh; paternal grandparents, Helen and Marcus Gefroh; and maternal grandparents, Wendelin and Christina Schumacher.
