Obituary

James L Widner, 70, of Linton, ND passed away June 29, 2019.  A memorial service will be held on July 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Linton, ND.  Burial will take place, at a later date, in Billings, MT.

James was born on December 23, 1948 in Billings, MT, the son of Vivian LeCompte. He grew up with his grandparents, Ed and Margaret (Baker) Widner, and attended school in Billings. He later attended Job Corps where he studied cooking. Over the years James held different positions which included working for the railroad, sugar factory and truck driving. Although he wasn't an official mechanic, James often fixed and repaired vehicles for others. He worked with Kateri Indian Ministries for many years which included the role of Santa Clause. He was active in AA; serving as a group leader and achieving nearly 29 years of sobriety. He was a loving, kind, helpful, understanding and wise man. He enjoyed motorcycles, fishing, animals, and spending time with family and friends.

James married Rita (Atchison) on May 1, 1999 in Las Vegas, NV.  The couple settled in Linton to be closer to family.

James is survived by his wife of 20 years, Rita, Linton, ND; his children, Rosalie Hernandez, Ogden, UT, Charles "Charlie" (Erica) Williams, Murrieta, CA, Lee Williams, Billings, MT, Jason Widner, Seattle WA, Rachel (Josh) Folk, Hazen, ND, and Amy (Kevin) Moos, Glendive, MT; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; his brother, Leroy (Janet) Widner, Billings, MT, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his mom, his parents, infant son, James "Little Jimmy", his brothers and sisters, and nieces and nephews.
