The Memorial Service for Jane Ruth (NOrberg) Ryckman will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church, Linton, ND with Pastor Thomas J. Nielsen officiating. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Ruth was born December 21, 1924 to Knute and Lydia (Krause) Norberg in Turtle Lake, ND and was raised on the family farm near Butte. She graduated from Butte High School where she played forward on the girls basketball team. Ruth then attended Capital Commercial College in Bismarck prior to accepting a position with First National Bank in Linton in 1943. There she met the love of her life, Donald L. Ryckman, and in 1945, they were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck. They resided in Linton for most of their marriage, were always a great team and especially enjoyed dancing together. In 1956, after spending several years at home raising her and Don's two daughters, Ruth returned to work, first at the Emmons County Record and then later at the bank. She continued working there until retiring in 1984. Her beloved Don passed away in 2009, after which Ruth spent summers in Linton and winters in California with her daughter and son-in-law. Ruth was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church, Linton, where in her earlier years she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over sixty years and served as treasurer and auditor for many years. Ruth enjoyed a quiet life in her home, was always the devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved spending time with family. Ruth and Don's home always seemed like a refuge from the world with its excellent food, strong coffee and lively conversation, and Ruth was especially known for her delicious apple pie and kuchen. She loved it when the house was full of family and friends during the holidays and planned for it months in advance. Ruth's strength, courage and faith were apparent to anyone who knew her well as she weathered life's storms with grace and dignity and always stood up for what was fair and right. Ruth is dearly missed and survived by her two daughters and two sons-in-law, Deborah and Robert Wood, Bismarck, ND and Donette and Anthony Mack, Santa Rosa, CA; four grandchildren, Christopher Wood, Boise, ID, Elizabeth (Brian) Barrett, Bismarck, Jeffrey (Diane) Mack, KS and Megan Jane Mack, Baltimore, MD; five great grandchildren, Zachary and Benjamin Wood, Logan Barrett, Brenna and Connor Mack; a sister, Dorothy (Kenneth) Stuberg, Leeds, ND and several nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two sisters.
