Obituary

Jerrol O. Harner, 74, Linton, ND, passed away at his home on June 2, 2019.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at First Baptist Church, Linton, with visitation starting at 1:00 pm.

Burial will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Zion Community Cemetery, Langdon, ND.

Jerrol Olin Harner was born on July 26, 1944, to Oscar and Ruby (Bjerkness) Harner in Chehalis, Washington. As a child, he lived at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and later moved to Powers Lake, North Dakota, where he graduated from high school.

He went on to receive a degree in auto mechanics from the State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota. He later attended the North Dakota State School of Forestry and graduated with a degree in business. Jerry served in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a Green Beret paratrooper.

On August 18, 1972, he married Candace Shrader in Bottineau. While there, Jerry worked at Theels Chevrolet and was a paramedic working with the ambulance. They moved to Rugby, North Dakota, where they managed a hotel. The couple also managed The Ben Franklin store in multiple locations; Bottineau, ND, Rugby, and Tioga, ND; After living in Rugby, they moved to Dickinson, ND where they managed a hotel.  They then moved to Tioga, where Jerry worked at the medical center, before retiring and moving to Linton, ND.

Jerry enjoyed hunting and trap shooting, with his wife Candy and his son John. He also loved rebuilding cars and spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Candy; 4 children, Vicki (Darrell) Wrege, Bismarck, ND, John Harner (Jen Ramsey), Rugby, ND, Mike (Lori) Harner, Highland Ranch, CO, and Bruce (Naomi) Harner Bovey, MN; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and special uncle, Carmen Bjerkness.
