John J. Baumgartner, IV, 70, Cattail Bay, ND, died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, ND with Rev. Paul Eberle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rights by Strasburg VFW and ND National Guard. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. John was born on January 2, 1941, in Linton, ND, the son of John J. Baumgartner III and Margaret (Miller). He attended school in Strasburg and graduated from Strasburg High School in 1958. He also attended the University of North Dakota for two years. John worked for Boeing in Great Falls, MT and Sheyenne, WY. He was drafted into the US Army in 1963 and was honorably discharged in 1965. John continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 1969. He then moved to Minneapolis, MN where he worked for Community Credit and Summit State Bank until 1978. He married Donna R. Crist in Richfield, MN in 1970. They moved and lived in Strasburg before building their home at Cattail Bay. They moved to Cattail Bay in 2000. John was engaged in farming and trucking until retiring. John was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer and wine maker. He loved spending time outdoors and with his family. He was a member of the Strasburg Wildlife Club, Strasburg VFW and Linton American Legion. John is survived by his wife: Donna R. Baumgartner of Cattail Bay, ND; two sons and daughters-in-law: John and Laurie Baumgartner, Bismarck, ND, and Bill and Danielle Baumgartner, Mandan, ND; one daughter and son-in-law: Regina and Mark Krush of Orlando, FL; three grandsons: Kristoff, Alekx and Nikko Krush ; three granddaughters: Brittany Carroll, Mercedes and Anna Baumgartner; two brothers and one sister-in-law: Richard Baumgartner of Pollock, SD and Tom and Laura Baumgartner of Pollock, SD; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Sue Baumgartner of Fargo, ND, Marjorie and Bob Hill of Steamboat Lake, MN, and Ellen and Jim Baumgartner of Brainerd, MN; one sister-in-law: Janet (Wayne) Nelson of Milford, Delaware; one brother-in-law: Merwyn (Janet) Crist of Sioux Falls, SD as well as many nieces, nephews and great friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Pancreatic Cancer Organization, Strasburg Wildlife Club or a charity of your choice.
