John J. Lauinger, 79, Strasburg, ND, died Sunday, November 14, 2010 in the Linton Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton, ND. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Myers Funeral Home, Linton, ND. Military honors by Strasburg VFW and Linton American Legion. John was born June 18, 1931, the son of John and Frances (Scherr) Lauinger, in Strasburg, ND. At the age of 17, he moved to Bismarck and was employed at the Walker Farm. He was called to serve our country during the Korean War in which he served one year in the Army. Upon his return to North Dakota, he met and married Tina Wingenbach on April 20, 1960. Soon thereafter, John bought a farm east of Linton where he and his wife lived for many years. Although farming was his livelihood, he loved just about everything about itespecially his cattle. When John did take a break from the rigors of farming, he enjoyed playing cards and attending farm auctions and livestock sales. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and often took them fishing. In 1994, John and his wife moved to Linton. Although he no longer lived on the family farm, he continued to remain active in its daily operations. Johns survivors include eight sons and four daughters-in-law: John Lauinger of Linton, ND, Tom Lauinger of Houma, LA, Jim Lauinger of Perham, MN, Norman Lauinger of Edgely, ND, Larry and Bona Lauinger of Strasburg, ND, Danny and Roxanne Lauinger of Strasburg, ND, Jerry and Amy Lauinger of Strasburg, ND and Joe and Jennifer Lauinger of Casselton, ND; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Shirley and Floyd Westall of Mapleton, ND, Laura and Darin Jorg of Vacaville, CA and Mary Lauinger (Marty) of Minot, ND; 20 grandchildren and one great granddaughter; two brothers and one sister-in-law: Kasper Lauinger of Jamestown, ND and Steve and Mary Jo Lauinger of St. Paul, MN; three sisters and one brother-in-law: Betty Leeland of Cedar Rapids, IA, Isabel Norquist of Denver, CO and Mary Ann and Terry Martin of Wilcox, AZ as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2005, two brothers, Joe and Leo and three sisters, Teresa Braun, Helen Peterson, and Tillie Heiser, and two brothers-in-law, Herman Braun and Lee Leeland. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Linton Hospital and Prairieview Hospice.
