John Oman, Herreid, SD passed away unexpectedly February 27th, 2026. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Herried Community Center at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 6, 2026 with Kelly Ince officiating.

John was born on 7/26/56 in Amery, Wisconsin and was raised on the family farm in Clear Lake, WI. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1974 and began working construction until he began his Andersen Window career in 1976. He worked there until 2006 when he retired at age 50. He then moved to South Dakota to hunt and fish whenever he wanted! In 1977 he married Margery Johnson. Together they raised Andy and Paul. John instilled a love of hunting and fishing in his boys and with all of their friends. Many of the boys who hunted and fished with John now are raising their children to love to hunt and fish also.

John was always ready to help people in the community. He was on the St Joseph Fire Department for 17 years, volunteered for the VA for 15 years, helped at the Feeding South Dakota, the Rod and Gun Club, and the Star Prairie Fish and Game. He was also the Santa for Herried for the last 15 years. Helping the farmers in the area was also a longstanding hobby. He was known for always being in a good mood and would help anyone at any time.

He is survived by his wife, Marge; sons, Andy (Nicole) and Paul (Sophie); his grandchildren, Olive, Heather and Ryan, who were the light of his life; his sisters, Mary Ambruso (Dennis), Karla Neva, Susie (Mike) and Cheryl (Jamie); his brother in laws, Jerry (Julie), Bill (Vicki), Doug (Shari), and sister-in-law, Linda (Jim) and many nieces and nephews and many good friends throughout the country.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Dorothy; father and mother-in-law, Martin and Olive Johnson; his brother, Mark; his sister-in-law, Carol and brothers-in-law, Rod Paulson and Greg Neva.

A service with internment to follow will be held at a later date in Wisconsin.
