Joseph T. Baumgartner, 80, of Linton, ND, formerly of Strasburg, ND died June 26, 2022 at Sanford Health Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on June 29, 2022 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 28 from 4pm to 7pm at the Sannes Feist Family Funeral Home, Linton. There will be a prayer service at 7pm at the funeral home.
Joe was born on June 12, 1942 in Linton, ND, the son of Joseph L. & Margaret (Bauman) Baumgartner. He was raised on the family farm north of Strasburg. He graduated from Strasburg Public School. Following graduation, he farmed with his dad. He continued to farm until his retirement in 2010. Joe married his soulmate, Melinda Voller on May 14, 1983. Together, they had 3 children, Joey, Sara and Michael. He attended all of his children's extracurriculars and never missed a basketball or football game. He went even if his kids weren't playing. His love for sports continued by watching his grandchildren play.
Joe was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He served on the Strasburg Farmers Elevator board and the Strasburg Public School Board. He was also a member of the Strasburg Lions Club.
Joe enjoyed reading, polka music, gardening, bowling, playing cards, coaching, playing softball, his trips to Las Vegas, watching the western channel and sports on tv. Joe retired from farming and they moved to Linton in 2021. Melinda had to take him to the farm every day just to oversee what the boys were doing.
Joe is survived by his wife of 39 years, Melinda, of Linton; two sons: Joey (DelRae) of Strasburg, Michael (Kayla) of Strasburg; daughter, Sara (Jesse) Jahner of Linton; six grandchildren: Natalie, Claire & Joseph Baumgartner, Kinley & Ashlyn Jahner and Jace Baumgartner; three sisters: Betty Barth, Mary (Bill) Schumacher and Marlene (Jackie) Baumgartner; one brother, Al (special friend Barb) and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lavern (Eugene) Glass; brother-in-law, Jim Barth and 2 nephews: Deon Schumacher and James L. Barth
Sannes Feist Family Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
