Obituary

Joseph C. Leier, 97, of Braddock, ND, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 23, 2019, at the Napoleon Care Center.

Joe was born August 22, 1921 in the St. Boniface area to Carl and Mary (Schatz) Leier.  He grew up on the family farm and attended rural grade school in the St. Boniface area.  He attended and graduated from Napoleon High School in 1941.

On October 18, 1949 Joe married Barbara Mitzel from Zeeland, ND.  Joe and Barbara farmed all their lives on the family farm north of Braddock.  When not working on the farm, it was common for Joe to find a dance floor, whether that be a wedding celebration or a trip to Bismarck to the Eagles, Moose, or Knights of Columbus clubs where he held memberships for decades.   It was well known how much Joe loved to dance and the happiness he felt while smoothly gliding around the floor doing a waltz and even more so during polka time!  Other positions Joe held in the Braddock community included:  Assessor of Baker Township, lifelong Lions Club member, Charter member of the Braddock Rural Fire Department and a member of the South Central Thrashing Association.

Joe is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 69 years; his children, Duane Leier, Braddock, Charlene (Marvin) Sickler, Burney CA, Tom (Cindy) Leier, Denver CO, Elaine (Nick) Hyslop, Southlake TX, and Daren Leier, Fargo; his grandchildren, Brad, Serena, Maika, Breann, Kyndra, Joseph and Matthew; his great-grandchildren, IIiana, Grayson, Ryker, and Scarlett; his brothers, Al Leier, Linton, Chris (Viola) Leier, Linton, Tony (Alvera) Leier, Kintyre, and Carl (Jolene) Leier, Columbus Ohio; he is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mary; brother, Andrew Leier; sister, Rose Reis; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Steve Meier; sister-in-law, Madge Leier; twin brother and sister, Sebastian and Mary (died in infancy).
