LaVida Brandner, 90, of Herreid, SD, died July 7, 2011 in the Linton Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am Monday, July 11, 2011 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Herreid with Fr. Thomas Clement officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at St. Michael's Catholic Church with a prayer service at 7:00pm. LaVida Kary was born on July 11, 1920 on a farm northwest of Java, SD, the daughter of John and Emma (Biel) Kary. She attended grade school in a one room country school house near Java. She was raised on the family farm. LaVida married Joseph O. Brandner on November 22, 1938 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Herreid. Following their marriage, the couple farmed east of Herreid until the fall of 1965 when they moved into Herreid. LaVida worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Herreid for many years and lived there at the time of her death. She died at the Linton Hospital on July 7, 2011. Grateful to have shared her life are her three sons: Virgil (Linda) Brandner of Bloomington, MN, Loren (Kelly) Brandner of Herreid, SD and Joseph (Missy) Brandner of Robbinsdale, MN; five grandchildren: Kelly (Jason) Luhrs of South St. Paul, MN, Charles (Tara) Brandner of Bismarck, ND, Katie (Scott) Miller of Bismarck, ND, Kaylan Brandner of Mandan, ND, and Nicholas Brandner of Robbinsdale, MN; four great grandchildren: Abbegail Luhrs, Jackson Luhrs and Madelyn Luhrs of South St. Paul, MN, and Ashtyn Miller of Bismarck, ND She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and four sisters: Alice, Bernice, Erna and Gladys.
