Leo was born in rural Emmons County, west of Strasburg, on October 2, 1925. He was the fourth-born child of Anselm and Monika (Ternes) Sehn. He attended Linton Public School and graduated from Linton High School in 1943.
On June 2, 1948 Leo was married to Valeria Wagner at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Krasna, Emmons County ND, about 10 miles west of Strasburg. Leo started farming with his father in the early 1930s with horses and moved to steel-wheel tractors and metal seats with upgrades of an umbrella in later years. Initially Leo and his family lived on the family farm 7 miles west of Linton, which he later purchased from his father in 1954. He received a soil conservation award in 1969 recognizing conservation practices that were implemented on his farm. He had a family of six children and was involved in the Saint Anthony's church where he was a KC member, served on the church council and was an usher. Leo and Valeria retired in 1986. They enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends and family, and helping on the farm. Until the age of 90, he operated the combine harvesting corn and sunflowers. During his last harvest season, combines had convenience/comfort features such as heating, air conditioning and a "resume" button (Auto Steer) which was his favorite feature.
Leo was preceded in death by Valeria, his wife of 76 years; and is survived by five sons, Marvin (Nancy) Sehn, Virginia, Kevin Sehn, Bismarck, Allen (Kathryn) Sehn, Maryland, Jeff (Donna) Sehn, Arizona and Darrel (Lillian) Sehn, Linton; son-in-law, Dave Ostlund, Wyoming; grandchildren, Nick Sehn, Caroline Petrow, Matthew Sehn, Stephanie Schneider, Michelle Reese, Brittany Pakalniskis, Jennifer Sehn, Alex Sehn, Cassie Sehn, Brandon Sehn, Cody Sehn and Tanner Sehn and 17 great grandchildren.
