Leola Dietz was born on February 18, 1930 to William and Otilia (Hertz) Rauscher on the family farm near New Leipzig, North Dakota. She was the 3 rd youngest of a family of 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls. She attended a one-room schoolhouse and a small country church near New Leipzig.

Leola married Lester Dietz on September 12, 1954, in Elgin, ND. They lived in Bismarck for a year, where Leola worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Company as a seamstress. They moved to Linton, ND in 1955, where Leola was a sewing teacher for Singer. Sewing was a big part of her life. She made many dresses for her daughters and she made quilts for all 9 of her grandchildren. She also was an expert in crocheting and embroidering.

Her life was filled with many interests. Leola loved gardening, canning, freezing, pickling, juicing, and jam and jelly making. She had a large garden and grew all kinds of fruits and vegetables. She went camping and fishing with her family. Leola faithfully helped with the World Day of Prayer and was active in her Homemakers club. She especially enjoyed hearing her daughters play piano and organ.

Her Christian faith was central to Leola's life. She loved her Lord and Savior with all her heart and was very active in Peace Lutheran Church. Leola taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was active in Bible studies, she sang in both the Senior Choir and the German Choir, and she always helped with the annual Harvest Festival. Leola loved quilting and was the leader of the church quilting group for decades. She was very happy to be part of the quilters, who made hundreds of quilts over the years to send to people overseas.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her three daughters and sons-in-law, Donnette (George) Joyal of Longmont, CO, Paulette (Stephen) Krenz of Spring Hill, TN, and Ronda (Steve) Loegering of Casselton, ND, and her grandchildren, Steven Joyal; David, Daniel (Grace), and Timothy Krenz; Hanna, David, Grace, Emily, and Michael Loegering; and a great-grandson, Theodore Krenz.

Leola was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lester, in 2018, and her parents and her 11 siblings.
