Obituary

Lillie Florence Jackson, 94, died Thursday, March 14, 2013 in Ridgewood, NJ. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 a Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church at Pollock, SD with Rev. Floyd Haan officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery, Pollock. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at the church where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Lilly was born to Fred and Mary Ryckman on the family farm in Emmons County, N.D., June 27, 1918. She is the eldest of their twelve children. Upon high school graduation, she received a teaching certificate from Ellendale Normal School. She then taught elementary school at Beulah, Hazelton, and other locations. She married Samuel Robert Jackson on June 12 1953, and they lived on a farm north of Pollock, SD until they relocated to Bismarck, ND in 1957. She lived in Bismarck until moving to New Jersey in 2006. Lillie was always involved with her family, the church and Bible studies. In addition to spending time with her grandchildren, her interests included gardening, entertaining, traveling and cake decorating. For a time she was a substitute teacher in Bismarck and she also tutored several chronically ill students. She was generous in volunteering her time to support missions. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for many years and later became a member of New Song Church. Lillie is survived by her four children and their spouses: Lynette and David Cace of Hawthorne, NJ; Ryon and Vicki Jackson of Valley City, ND; Dr. Orlan and Caryl Jackson of Hazen, ND; Julie and Rick Hedlund of West Palm Beach, FL. Additionally, she has fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters and one brother-in-law, Mildred Vander Laan of Bismarck, Verda Schaffer of Pollock, SD, and Leona and Al Vander Vorste of Mesa, AZ, and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ronald Ryckman of Linton, and Harold and Mary Ryckman, Arlo and Lenore Ryckman all of Pollock and Irene Ryckman also of Pollock, SD. She was preceded in death by her first husband Garret Cleveringa of Westfield ND, by her husband of 27 years Samuel Jackson, and by her parents Fred and Mary Ryckman, and brothers Peter, Floyd, Lawrence and Harvey Ryckman and sister Angeline Pollock.
